Gwernyfed Ladies and the love of rugby...
There is a single-
From
the moment the captain Megan Snape broke through feeble tackling after a ruck on
six minutes for the first of her five tries, Gwernyfed dominated.
They were too strong
up front for Lampeter, with the front row trio of Kirsten Bishop, Di Workman and
Rosie Snape controlling the breakdown, allowing aggressive runs from second rows,
Kate price and Simone Hodges, angles of runs from the backs and precision passing
meant Lampeter were confronted by an assortment of moving objects, which invariably
lead to wing Kayleigh Rees scoring not one but two tries, one of which had her walking
a tight rope along, but not on the touch line to score both in the corner.
No one

The second half was more of the same, with a further injection of pace from Kirsty
Prosser, speed from deep rewarded her with two tries, in quick succession.
Team play
never allowed Gwernyfed to think of the win, there was a joy in the physical battle
that could be seen from Rosie Jones, new comer Bec Willis and the marauding back
row, which stifled any glimmer from Lampeter, with Number 8 Lily Snape and flanker
Harry Jones blitzing their opponents. The Tongan tackler Rosie Snape left an opposing
forward flattened, that raised howls from visiting fans, but that avenue of attack
was not attempted again.
Not to be out done wing Nic Haines and Ros Price ran various
lines that cut the opposing defence making space and time for scrum half Sian Dyke
to forge new attacks. All in all the girls ran in fourteen tries racking up a score
of 80 – 7. In effect this season is a mouth watering prospect, but time will tell.
WRU Senior Women's Team Manager Alan Roberts (Blues Region) said; watching the ladies
play today, showed a lot of ball skills and an excellent coaching set up at Gwernyfed
RFC, well done to Gordon and the team, it also proves that both the girls’ and women's
rugby continues to grow within Wales.
